Ingredients
  • 2 Tblsp. butter
  • 2 Tblsp. oil
  • 1/2 small head of cabbage
  • 1 large sweet onion
  • 1 Granny Smith apple
  • 16 oz. can of sauerkraut, undrained
  • 1 Tblsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 2 Tblsp. white sugar
  • lasagna or dumpling style noodles
  • sour cream
  • black pepper
  • allspice, a sprinkle is optional
Instructions
  1. ♦ Thinly slice or chop cabbage, onion and apple.
    ♦ Heat a large skillet and melt butter with oil.
    ♦ Add cabbage, onion, apple, sauerkraut, vinegar and sugar.
    ♦ Fry until tender and beginning to caramelize.
    ♦ Season with black pepper, and allspice if desired.
  2. ♦ Prepare noodles per package directions, breaking them in 2-3 inch pieces before boiling.
    ♦ Drain. Optional extra: Now fry them in a bit of butter until one side is golden brown.
  3. ♦ Prepared noodles may be served as a bed for the cabbage mix or toss it all together.
  4. ♦ Serve with sour cream and perhaps some applesauce on the side.
    ♦ Suitable as the main course for a meatless meal, delicious with barbecued pork chops or ribs.
